2019 New Year Goals

The 2019 ball is already rolling and our work is beginning to pick up pace. We have some ambitious goals to achieve this year so before the months race away we wanted to share some of our most anticipated projects. We’ll be documenting the progress of each of these projects and we hope you’ll join us for the journey.

1.)  Over 1200 new households to be enrolled in our programs.

Sungai Nibung is one of the first coastal villages to participate in our program and has become a massive advocate for our movement in the area.

We will be expanding of our programs to 10 new villages with an expectation that over 1,200 new households will enrol. Of those villages, 4 will be in our coastal sites and 6 in our terrestrial sites. That will equate to an additional 7,000 hectares of carbon-rich mangroves and 30,000 hectares of primary Bornean rainforest to be protected under our village-led agreements.

2.) A new Songbird Rescue and Rehab Center.

A brand new initiative that we have begun is our Songbird Rescue and Rehab Center. Many of our measures prevent future harm from occurring, but sometimes we have to dismantle damaging systems that already exist, such as Indonesia’s songbird markets. We will work closely with government officials to ensure that the songbirds rescued from these shops will receive the necessary care to live out their lives with dignity and when appropriate to undergo rehabilitation for release back into the wild where they belong.

Recently, we signed the papers to purchase a large plot of land in West Kalimantan. We are expecting to begin the building process for the Rescue and Rehab Center infrastructure within the next month. Stay tune.

3.) A permanent Planet Indonesia Research Station in the Bornean Rainforest.

Finally, a massive project that has been in the works for the past year is coming to fruition. We hope to begin the building process for our Research Station before March.

The Planet Indonesia Research Station will be located deep in the Bornean Rainforest and will be a permanent structure. It will give our Biodiversity Team, Smart Patrol Team and government officials a safe and secure place to conduct a significant portion of their in-field work from.
